Find the right size fins for scuba is similar to finding the right size shoe for your feet. As a general rule men should start out with a fin size the same size as their shoes. Women however may want to try one size smaller than their shoe size.

One of the most important things to look for when choosing a scuba diving fin is comfort. Ensuring the correct size and fit will ensure a great diving experience.

Another thing to keep in mind when shopping for a new set of dive fins is not only just size but also flexibility. Some fins are very firm and others are very flexible. Fins that are more firm will allow you to propel yourself quickly through the water, however your legs may get tired quickly if your not used to using firm fins.  On the other hand, fins that are more flexible are a bit easier on your legs but don't allow you to get the speed that you may want.

There are now newer scuba flipper designs specifically engineered to give you the maximum thrust with the least amount of leg effort. Some of these more efficient flippers are commonly known as "split" fins. These types of scuba diving flippers have a slit in the middle of each fin which "splits" the flipper into two sections.  The inner portion is very flexible while the outer edge is very firm.  With these new design you get the best of both worlds.
