There seems to be an insurance policy for everything these days. The sport of scuba diving is no exception. There are a number of policies that can be purchased depending upon the type of insurance and the kind of coverage you need.
As scuba diving is a sport that comes along with some dangerous risks it is wise to get insurance in the same way you have car insurance and healthcare insurance. If you are a recreational diver and not a professional you are still eligible to receive insurance benefits when you hold a policy.
What Type of Situations Does Dive Insurance Cover
Though policies will differ, here are a few features that some or all may provide for their clients:
- Coverage for medical dive accidents and emergency evacuations
- No limits on how far you dive, the equipment you use or the gases needed to breathe below the surface
- Coverage for a dismemberment or an accidental death
- Benefits for extra accommodations
- Benefits for extra transportation from the airlines
- A refund for a diving vacation that has been cancelled
- A refund if your diving vacation is interrupted.
- Coverage up to a set amount for diving equipment that becomes lost
If you spend most of your free time and vacations going down deep into the abyss, then scuba diving insurance coverage would benefit you. Those that scuba dive on an infrequent basis may not need the coverage that an avid scuba diver would require.
Call your insurance company or do your research online to find out if purchasing scuba diving insurance will benefit you. If you are a recreation diving it maybe more than you need. But if you are more than a casual diver, you should really look into getting dive insurance. Accidents can happen and dive insurance will give you the coverage you need when you need it.
